Animazement and Dragon Con 10′
It has been decided that I will be attending 2 conventions this first half of the year. The decision was somewhat sporadic to say the least. I was talking to a co worker about D&D and he mentioned Dragon Con to me and that he was attending, I decided I would go, as well as someone else I work with. This Dragon Con is not THE Dragon Con, it is a smaller brother of it taking place in Raleigh NC. Even though I am not a D&D player, I still enjoy the concept of it through playing MMO games, and other RPG style games based loosely on it. I will be leaving on Feb 25th for the 3-day event. It will be really fun and I plan to take tons of pictures I am really excited >.<
The 2nd convention I will be attending this year is Animazement. After the whole Dragon Con thing and talking about it so much, it got me thinking to go to my own type of convention. I had done some research on Animazement before but never got into the serious planning of going since I was in school, but hey! now I work and I am going to finally go. Me and a friend/blogger Riakunix are going to be attending. It will take place in Raleigh NC as well at the SAME convention center I think. It will also be 3 days from May 28th-30th.
At first I thought I would not cosplay for the conventions them being my first one. After watching LOTS of youtube videos on Animazement I changed my mind. The cosplayers have SO much fun it seems, they get pictures taken, people talk to them, and its much easier to strike up conversation with a fellow con attender by simply discussing costume. It took me a while to decide who to go as, but since I have been heavily watching Bleach lately. (I never watched it since Naruto kinda turned me off from Shounen with the TONS of filler…but then I read the manga that helped me a lot lol) I am going as Kisuke Urahara. As soon as I get the costume put together I will be sure to take pictures before the convention >.<
Alright, is anyone going to either of these conventions? If you are, let me know we can meet up or something. This is my VERY first convention so I am crazy excited, just hope things go somewhat as planning.
What Operating System Do Otaku Use?
Recently due to a fellow bloggers, Riakunix, suggestion I tried to use the open source OS Linux. I have been a Windows user for many years now, in fact since I started using a computer that is what I have used, because of this fact moving over to something like Linux was a tough chore to get used to. If you are like me and have gotten used to a set fleet of programs and apps at your disposal, Linux is not something you should take lightly. Most Windows applications will not work under Linux.
I would comment on Apple’s OS X but I have yet to have the chance to try it for myself. I currently run Windows 7, the replacement to the former “Vista” though pretty much the same thing disguised by a clever marketing trick. As i was able to experiance Linux and what it had to offer for the breif few days I ran it…all the while I thought. What OS do most otaku use on a day to day basis?
Of course the first place searched was the al mighty google. Nothing came up, which is the reason…I am writing this article. Though I cannot speak for every otaku on the interwebs I can speak for myself and my reasoning for using Windows.
As a “Self Proclaimed” otaku to an extent I like to dabble in many things. I play MMO games, I have been through my share of dating sims, and played a good bit of RPG games. Game creators make games for Windows because it is the most common operating system currently on the market, and until someone overthrows the mighty Microsoft (Which might be sooner than you think) it will remain as such. Until that time I like to be able to play my games with ease and lack of compatibility issues.
Another reason I stick to Windows is routine. I am a man of routines I like to think, I have done something for so long I think nothing of it…and its hard to break me of things I have gotten used to. Windows being one of those things. I am not into all that security, programming errors, or “Bill Gates is the Devil” nonsense. I have yet to have serious issues with my computer and my internet experience. The viruses I have come across over the years have been self induced through my own stupidity. Programming errors and hiccups are common, but all operating system have their share, maybe some less than others. Last but not least I do not use my operating system because Bill Gates told me to……..*Mind gets taken over* Bill…Gates….KING….Bill…..Gates…KING….Bill….Gates….KING…..FOREVER!…………..WTF!?….what the hell just happened O_O. Ah, anyway, please share your thought on your operating system preference, what do you look for in a good operating system? Also mention some of the things that each operating offers to your Anime, Manga, and all things Asian passion.
Sick =_=
Ah well, I got a cold on my LAST day of work. For the next 2 days im going to not strain myself and get better before I have to go back to work. I cannot take any sick days >.< I used too many already. Do not expect any updates from me for a few days, but I am going to Dragon Con end of Feb if my work schedule is approved. I will be taking TONS of pictures there XD I hope I have fun!
My Top 5 Anime Series (For Now)
I think most anyone would realize I am a big fan of Lucky Star from reading my About Me section but what about other series I like? I mean I do watch a lot I would think. The only reason I have neglected to do a post like this is because in terms of anime my favorite list changes pretty frequently, but over all of that I carefully thought back over all the shows I have watched and chose 5 that stuck to me the most.
1: Lucky Star
How can you resist this series! I consider it the “Seinfeld of Anime” that phrase is copyrighted and trademarked by the way =P This cute slice of life series easily won me over when I saw Konata Izumi. What otaku can possibly resist!!!
2: Love Hina
Ken Akamatsu amazed me with this series. It was the first anime I saw that was not mainstream playing in America. I was on dial up and it took me over 5 hours to watch each episode but I loved this series SO much! I watched it dubbed the first time around, but I would love to get my hands on the box sets and marathon it subbed instead. I loved the characters, the romance, and especially Keitaro, he reminded me of myself back then.
3. Rurouni Kenshin
Ronin samurai repenting for his sins…perfect idol for a young kid don’t you think? I was always so amazed to see Kenshin fight his way through to save his friends and how old villains would crawl out of wood works to kill him, but he never slay a single one. As a child he one my biggest heros….him and Tuxedo Mask..*Cough* If you read my Childhood Anime post you would know that =P
4. Black Lagoon
Black Lagoon…I honestly have not been able to finish yet. I am considering buying the complete box sets once I get the money for it. I watched the first 2 volumes and fell in love with Revy! She is so…just cool lol. I love the mercenary type feel, and the emotional challenge Rock faces dealing with the moral issues. I cannot wait to see the rest.
5: Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Unfortunately for me this series took the back seat for me when the notorious “Endless Eight” aired. I could not stand that >.< I love the story and character design, and on top of all that, the animation is amazing. I hope to one day rewatch the 2nd season and try and gain more of a appreciation for it.
That concludes my current top 5 anime shows. Of course this will all change soon as I watch more. Hope you enjoyed =3
