Naruto and Fruits Basket Dropping in Sales
Perhaps not one of the most pressing matters, but this was something I found pretty interesting. Below is a excerpt from the Anime News Network article.
Volume 30 of Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto (Viz Media) and Volume 20 of Natsuki Takaya’s Fruits Basket (Tokyopop), arguably two of the most popular manga currently being published in English, remain the only Japanese comics on the USA Today newpaper’s list of America’s top 150 best-selling books for the week of July 7 to July 13. After cresting at #45 and #63 respectively, sales of both volumes have dropped. Naruto 30 now ranks at #50, while the Fruits Basket volume, also in its second full week as a best-seller, holds the #79 spot.
I found this to be a bit shocking due to the fact that before when Naruto vol. 29 came out it was one of the top books out at the time. Now it has already dropped. Which leads me to ask myself, are the readers already getting a bit bored of the new Naruto Shippuden?
I for one can never find the books. The only stores locally within 20 minutes of my house is Wal-Mart. Other than that I have to drive an hour and a half away for a Books A Million. Every time I go to Wal-Mart though they never carry any manga at all. Only after 2 weeks of checking in did I manage to get a copy of volume 30 for myself.
Anyway though, I found the news kind of a bit odd and wanted to point it out.
